NETINIUM® AND IBM SIGN STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP

03-03-2008 - Optimizing direct integration of smart metering solutions with utility business processes

Netinium®, advanced AMR/AMM middleware solution provider for large scale residential multi-vendor/multi-service smart metering, has signed a partner agreement with IBM. Sharing a vision of efficiently integrating automated metering inside business processes and offering unified vendor-agnostic services to enable direct integration with utility business processes, this partnership will provide a full-service smart metering implementation process: from development, to marketing, to installation and execution, and long-term maintenance and support.

The new partnership between Netinium and IBM is based on this joint vision that large scale residential smart metering, as the starting point for the smart grid, requires an application architecture that enables utilities to easily integrate the new smart metering environment into existing processes and back-end application services. Furthermore, new functionalities and data-streams of the smart metering environment need to be managed and disclosed, hiding the technical complexity and allowing for a continuous optimisation of business processes within the utility itself and in the surrounding utility marketplace.

“We are pleased to partner with IBM, who has a great reputation, in-depth industry knowledge and the experience in implementing advanced meter management solutions around the globe and is a technology leader. Being selected by IBM is a strong validation of our innovative and cost saving high-end smart metering solution that will help our customers to future proof their investments in smart metering and smart grid applications. With access to IBM’s capabilities and resources in implementation, application development and maintenance we can provide the long term continuity and stability required by our customers” says Ferry Cserép, CEO Netinium.

NETINIUM® STARTS SMART METERING PILOT WITH DELTA NV

20-09-2007 - Netwerkbedrijf, Delta Comfort and Evides recently announced the start of a smart metering pilot in Nisse, Zeeland. To test Delta’s multi-utility approach, 260 homes will be fitted with gas, water and electricity meters from various vendors. Netinium® Meter Information Manager™ (MiM™) will play a key role in this pilot, acting as the central access server to securely access and manage the meters and to provide a rich set of services to support key utility processes such as billing, supplier switch and remote connect/disconnect.

This pre-NTA 8130 phase of the smart metering pilot has been designed to validate different communication technologies (including PLC and Delta’s cable network) and metering products from multiple meter vendors including Iskraemeco, Sagem, Flonidan and Actaris. The NTA 8130 is a new Dutch standard specifically designed for mass smart metering in The Netherlands and describes the minimum functionality for smart meters. It is part of the legislation regarding the mass roll-out of smart meters to every home in the Netherlands.

As a key element in this pilot Netinium® MiM™ provides the key services to install, operate and maintain the multi-vendor smart metering infrastructure and enable Delta’s business processes to securely and uniformly interact with the smart meters, irrespective of meter type and brand.

Ferry Cserép, CEO of NETINIUM® says: ‘We are thrilled to welcome Delta as the second utility in the Dutch market space to use Netinium. Our long term involvement with Nuon offered us the insight to design and develop a new and highly visionary solution that mitigates the risk of multi-vendor/multi-utility smart metering, providing the flexibility needed to cope with an ever changing landscape of legislation, technology and functionality. Netinium represents a dramatic paradigm shift in managing energy assets and customer relationships. It provides a future proof architecture that dramatically lowers IT expenses, both Capex and Opex, and enables a utility to maximize the benefits of smart metering and smart grid applications’.

Jan Dees, Project leader of Delta says: ‘We’re delighted to work with Netinium®. Delta is a true multi-utility, delivering triple play services to more then 200.000 customers. Multi-vendor multi-utility smart metering with such rich feature sets as demanded in the NTA 8130 is a real challenge. Netinium® MiM™ offers a dramatic reduction of complexity in accessing our smart metering infrastructure and enables us to service our customers from one common platform. We believe that Netinium is a crucial factor for our Pilot’.

Delta’s smart metering pilot is divided in different phases. This first phase will run through the first quarter of 2008. Following this, decisions will be made as to which meters and IT systems will be used, followed by a second testing phase. The second testing phase will also include a thorough test of the NTA requirements. Delta NV aims to start with a large-scale roll-out by the end of 2008 or early 2009, whereby each of Delta’s 200.000 domestic households will receive three new, smart meters.

NETINIUM® V 2.4 GENERALLY AVAILABLE

15-01-2007 - Enhanced remote automatic data collection and management solution for large scale residential multi-vendor/multi-service smart metering

Utilities and grid operators looking to install Automatic Meter Reading solutions to allow for integration of meter data into systems and business processes can now take advantage of Netinium® V2.4. Netinium is an advanced middleware solution, based on open industry (SOA) standards allowing large scale, residential multi-vendor/multi-service smart metering.

The new version 2.4 has further added functionalities, selected and developed based upon several pilot projects conducted with Continuon, the Dutch grid operator.

Driven by legislation or by internal business cases, utilities across the world have started rolling-out large scale residential smart metering projects. Large investments are involved and all cost- and risk factors have carefully been considered. With Netinium, utilities can build a scalable, multi-vendor, multi-service and on open industry standards based smart metering platform, allowing them to deploy feature-rich meter products from multiple vendors and integrate the data with their systems and into their business processes.

Netinium is an advanced AMR/AMM middleware solution for large scale residential multi-vendor/multi-service smart metering. The solution enables utilities to mix and match different metering products into one seamless AMR/AMM infrastructure and provides advanced unified agnostic services. All smart meter data is collected and made available through one single and consistent data source. The latest version of Netinium Information Manager is enhanced with audit logs, access control functionalities and integrated management for entire meter populations.

NETINIUM ESTABLISHES US OPERATIONS

NETINIUM® PILOT FOR CONTINUON SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED

10-10-2005 - Largest Dutch Grid Operator implements Netinium in Infostroom Smart Metering Project

Recently, Continuon and Nuon completed a significant pilot for AMR. In this pilot, the complete end-to-end infrastructure, dubbed "from Meter to SAP" has been tested. Netinium® Meter Information Manager™ enabled Nuon to integrate meter data from multiple vendors into SAP, using different communication technologies, such as medium-voltage PLC and GSM/GPRS. Data made available via Netinium integrated seamlessly into existing business processes and corporate back-office applications, enabling a smooth transition to an AMR-based operation.

Continuon Netbeheer started installing an Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) and telecommunications system for residential and small business customers. The focus of this project, called "Infostroom" is to improve internal business processes as well as core grid processes. Together with Netinium a layered architecture has been developed for the future implementation of 2.7 million smart electricity and 2.0 million smart gas meters. These smart meters will allow for remote meter reading, profiling, switching and other additional functionalities.

In the proposed and now tested architecture, Netinium acts as middleware layer that provides the automatic data collection and management. The network of smart meters, provided by multiple vendors, is virtualized and the data collected in such a format that it is able to communicate directly with the SOA layer (Enterprise Service Bus for example) of Continuon, Nuon and other third parties interested and authorized in receiving this data. The open standards used in this system allow Nuon to directly integrate the smart meter data in their SAP business processes.

Starting December 2005 a pilot project was executed to test remotely readable residential electricity meters in a full AMR environment. In 1200 houses in the city of Arnhem new electricity meters, which are able to communicate via PLC over the low voltage grid, replaced the installed electricity meters. Netinium provided the services for the business processes to retrieve meter data from the smart meters The successful finalization of this pilot marks the start of the phased implementation of smart meters in the service territory of Continuon.
